Overview
- MLS NEXT is described as "a new paradigm for player development," focused on world-class development for the top talent in the U.S. and Canada.
- Six teams at the Tier 1 level, spanning 13U through 19U.
- Individual growth plans cover technical, tactical, physical, mental, academic, and college-placement development, giving college coaches a clearer look at pathway decisions.
Training & games
- Players train 4 times per week.
- One training day is dedicated to Sports Performance/Recovery, led by Duke University Sports Medicine.
- Goalkeepers train separately, 2 times per week, with a specialized goalkeeper trainer.
Competition
- Showcase events: MLS NEXT FEST (December), MLS NEXT FLEX (May), MLS NEXT Playoffs/Showcase (June).
- Competes against clubs including Carolina Core, Atlanta United, Nashville SC, Charlotte FC, and Wake FC.
Season
Season runs mid-August through mid-June, with match play in September–November and February–May.
